A Start To The Road Racing Season

Last Saturday kicked off the local road racing season. The Anthem 5k Fitness Classic started the Triple Crown of Racing here in Louisville KY. I was not sure how would fare as my fitness isn't up for my lack of training over the winter. Beyond my belief and I ended up setting a PR with a 16:59. The winner had a 14:21. Those guys were flying.

Training went pretty well this week. Nothing spectacular as it was cold 30s-40s and rainy. Today however I was invited to run with group of guys that are significantly faster than I am. It was very nice and I will hopefully continue to run with them. I can see the benefits potential benefits from training with them. I am excited for this upcoming season.

First Tri of the Year = First Overall Win of the Year

This past Sunday was my first triathlon of the season. It was the Max Performance Sprint Race #2. A reverse order 5k run, 12mile bike, and 400 meter swim. The bike was eliminated from the event as a result of the previous night's rain and sleet, which resulted in a nice 1/2 inch thick covering of ice on the roads. It was hard day for such a short race. Thankfully the ground next to the roads was level because you were unable to run on the roads as a result of the ice. I slid a number of times when I had to cross the road. The course was also an out-and-back. At the turn around I took a step out onto the road and hit the deck hard. Knocked up my leg pretty good and was bleeding a bit. I was in the lead by about 6 seconds at this point and was able to get back up and running and still maintain the lead. I came into the transition 5 seconds ahead of 2nd place, had the fastest transition on the day and put another 5 seconds on second place. I had a good swim for me, 6:07, not flying but I swam a 7:15 at last years race. Good enough for the overall when.

I also started work this past week. Its good to be working and getting a paycheck. Work has been fast paced.

This coming weekend I have the Anthem 5k. It is a large local 5k that starts off a series of races. There will be 8,000 plus runners. Last year I was 25th with a time of 17:06. I don't expect to be anywhere near that time as I have not had nearly enough training as a result of my winter's ailments. We shall wait and see. Either way I am stoked.

Better Than Expected

I spent a good part of the week looking for a job. I finally landed one that I think I will really enjoy. I start this coming week. On the training side of things I was able to get in a decent volume of training all while the knee felt good. I am finally excited about life again. I have my first triathlon of the year coming up this weekend and I am really looking forward to it.

I got layed off and my race schedule!!!

I was suppose to start my job today but I got a call last Friday telling me that the company could not bring me on because they were losing too much money. I guess it is better that it happened before I started than to get a month or two in and then get layed off. So it is back to the job hunt I go.

I have also posted my race schedule over on the side. I may add a race or two as the year goes on. I would really like to get my first crit and cyclocross race in this fall.

Finally back in the swing

Last week my knee pain finally started to clear up. I was able to get out on the bike a little and I was able to run a lot. The knee felt good while running but still nagged a bit when riding the aero bars. I will have to check my fit.

I also finally got a job at a local hospital, Suburban Hospital. I will finally be pulling in a paycheck. Time to pay back those student loans.

And since my knee was feeling better, I decided that I could sign up for a few races. I have not completely decided on my race schedule for this year but I will be posted shortly.

In the mean time, have a great time training.

I Graduated!!!

So this week finally brought some good news this Fall. I graduated Wednesday night with my doctorate in physical therapy. I am now Dr. Luevil Triathlete. I have waited a long time for this. I can't wait to get to working. I am currently in the process of interviewing for jobs but nothing has been settled on. I will probably stay in here in Louisville but I am open to other areas of the country. So if any of you out there have any prospects give me a shout.

On the training front this fall/winter has been a disaster. It seems that it has been one injury after another this year. I am currently dealing with IT band issues, chondramalecia, and medail plica syndrome all in the same knee. Needless to say I have not run in a long time. My cycling and swimming are doing decent thought.

I am pumped today as I just installed my new hed aerobars on my bike and I love the feel of them. I will try to get a picture posted up soon. Hopefully I can get out side to get a couple good outdoor rides in and get off the trainer.

Ciao for now

The Louisville Half Marathon and School/Work

So it has been a while since I made an entry. I have only two weeks left in my last clinical rotation before I earn my doctorate in physical therapy. There in lies why I haven't posted in so long. I have had a lot going on. My race back in October, The Louisville Half Marathon, did not really go as planned. I ended up running 1:24:28, which was good enough for 5th overall. This time was 5 minutes off my PR from early in the spring. I hadn't really trained so I don't know what I expected but I really wanted to place and I just didn't have it in me on race day. I hope to build a substantial base for the up coming running/tri season. This should be my best season yet.
